So far its a pretty good play, I think that its a little ironic how buddy is afraid of the water and C.C.'s last name is Showers. The divining rod is in this case a spilt stick that some believe can be used to find sources of water. Buddy has a special "power" and is able to use the divining rod very well. This is also ironic because Buddy is terrified of anything to do with water because he had almost drown as a kid and even refused to bath. In that same incident Buddy lost his mother, she died trying to save him.
